Applicants with non-immigrant visas should be aware of the following:
- Federal financial aid is not available to an applicant with a non-immigrant visa.
- An individual must be authorized to work in the United States to take the state licensure exam.
If an applicant needs assistance in understanding how their visa status impacts their ability to receive federal financial aid or take the state licensure exam after completing their program, they should contact an admissions advisor.
Any noncitizen must fall into a valid immigration status under 8 USC § 1621 to be eligible to receive a cosmetology or branch of cosmetology license in the State of Ohio. Having a work permit and/or social security number does not always entitle the holder to public benefits as defined under 8 USC § 1621. Each candidate applying for a license examination with the Ohio State Cosmetology and Barber Board will be required to submit sufficient documentation to prove citizenship status prior to testing. Any individual that falls within this type of status should refer to 8 USC § 1621when determining if they qualify for licensure and/or consulting with an attorney or USCIS prior to enrolling.
